About Bethany

Dr. Bethany Grace Howe works in strategic communications for the Oregon Department of Human Services. There, she works with front line staff to ensure AI development as a part of internal communications serves and empowers marginalized communities. She also produces and co-hosts the weekly show: “Sometimes a Great Podcast,” featuring updates and interviews from within ODHS.

Outside of government, she leads Pride & Praxis, an advisory LLC focusing on LGBTQ communications outreach, including consultancy for media on transgender issues. She's consulted for top outlets like CNN, Politico, Vox, The New York Times, and USA Today, among others. Volunteering, she continues to work with community groups supporting survivors of the 2020 Oregon Wildfires.

Prior to her work in consulting and at ODHS, her 2019 Media Studies doctoral work at the University of Oregon focused on how transgender identity is affected by interpersonal and media-based microaggressions. These efforts produced six articles in peer-reviewed and academic journals.

In her spare time, she’s a stand-up comedienne.
