What brings us together? The first gathering at the Oregon Resilience Summit was in May of 2024, and was an intentional response to the compounding disasters Oregonians experienced over the preceding years, in particular the Labor Day fires and their attending devastation, along with increasingly destructive weather and fire events the following years. Despite differing needs, experiences, and locations of their communities, nonprofits and community-based organizations across the state arrived at a unanimous conclusion: we need to get in the same room and talk.

We gather again in 2026 on the heels of additional devastations with a profound need to debrief, grieve, celebrate the insights gained, the work and progress achieved, and the future before us all. The spirit of this event–as it was in 2024–is to build statewide resilience through community, trust, and cross-sector collaboration. To that end, we invite you to engage with three principles for resilience:

Strengthening relationships across Oregon’s disaster sector through engaging activities, conversation, food, music, art, and fun.

DIALOGUE

Creating space for tough conversations, peer learning across regions and sectors, and valuing subject matter expertise with and alongside lived experiences.

ACTION

Bringing actionable ideas, innovations, and support networks back to our respective communities in the spirit of a more resilient Oregon.

Summit Goals

With over 250+ attendees this year, we hope to achieve the following goals:

Goal 01

Strengthen and broaden cross-sector partnerships – meet new collaborators working in different subject areas, strengthen existing partnerships, and hear from peers building innovative networks of resilience

Goal 02

Take stock of our current disaster landscape – connect new and existing disaster resilience organizations to foster learning, celebrate the victories and innovations in our sector, process the losses amongst our friends and peers, identify gaps or pain points in our systems, and develop actionable pathways toward a more resilient Oregon

Goal 03

Build relationships before we need them – get to know your local, state, and regional “neighbors” and resilience partners, grantmakers, emergency managers, community builders and subject matter experts in a supportive, fun environment so that we know who to call when disaster does strike

Goal 04

Engage through joy – working within the disaster lifecycle can be taxing, traumatic and complex. It is essential we create space for joy, delight, laughter, and connection through fun activities–when we are surrounded by joy and goodwill, the debriefing can turn into de-stressing, and the insights and relationships stick with us long after the Summit concludes

Land Acknowledgement

The Oregon Resilience Summit is grateful to Lomakatsi Restoration Project and Belinda Brown for this Land Acknowledgement, their partnership, and for their ancestral and ongoing land stewardship.

The Summit is taking place within what was, is, and always will be the ancestral homeland of the Hunipuitoka Band of the Northern Paiute – Numu (“the people”). We honor the spiritual relationship between the land, plants, animals, elements, and the past, present, and future aboriginal people of the region. The interconnectedness of the people, the land, and our natural environment cannot be overstated.

We are all connected.

We acknowledge and pay tribute to all the tribal communities who have maintained the health and beauty of these lands through the careful ecological stewardship of forests, woodlands, high deserts, waterways, and wildlife for time immemorial.

We recognize the resilience and continued sovereignty of the aboriginal peoples who have ties to these and surrounding ancestral lands across the region. We offer gratitude for the oral histories, songs, language, dances, and ceremonies, including the local Indigenous Traditional Ecological Knowledge.

This Summit strives to inform and empower partnerships with tribes to co-steward landscapes, co-invest in restoration efforts, and foster collaboration on a landscape-scale to build ecosystem and community resilience to the mounting impacts of wildfire and climate change.

It is a testament to our collective commitment to create a more knowledgeable, inclusive, equitable, and sustainable future for all.
